If you’re exploring brewery options around Scottsdale, AZ, State 48 Lager House is an easy stop, especially if you enjoy a brewery that blends craft beer with a full restaurant.

State 48 Brewing was founded with a focus on creating beers inspired by Arizona (the 48th state) while creating a few different gathering spaces around the Phoenix area. The Lager House in Scottsdale has a community-focused vibe with tons of seating, TVs for games, and a big tap list featuring both lagers and experimental options.

What's On Tap?

Beer taps

State 48 is known for a wide lineup of beers, with a focus on simpler styles like lagers and IPAs. But if you enjoy sour beers, they had a couple worth checking out.

Worth a Try:

Sour

Sour Seduction - Fruited Sour 5.7% ABV

This was easily my favorite of the sour options. It’s a fruited kettle sour made with raspberry and passionfruit, then a bit of fresh vanilla beans. The result is a superb fruity flavor with a smoothness from the vanilla that balances out the tart.

It’s a sour that hits the middle ground just right - both mouth-puckering but still refreshing and easy to drink.

Cherry Sour - Fruited Sour 5% ABV

Another solid sour they made with 224 pounds of cherry juice, so it's got a bold cherry flavor and a crisp tartness. Cherry isn't one my go-to flavors, but this one was pretty good!

Their tap list also features:

  • lagers and pilsners

  • hazy and West Coast IPAs

  • dark beers and seasonal releases

Food Finds

Unlike many breweries, State 48 Lager House runs a full kitchen, which makes it a great stop if you’re looking for both food and beer.

Menu options include:

  • burgers and sandwiches

  • wings and shareable appetizers

  • pizzas and comfort food favorites

  • salads and lighter options

We sampled a couple of apps - if you're a fan of deviled eggs, I highly recommend order a couple plates, they very tasty!

The Vibe Inside & Out

The vibe here is lively and social.

Inside there is:

  • a large bar area

  • TVs for watching sports

  • tables for groups and casual dining

  • Nice outdoor patio

  • 2 levels of seating

It’s a place that feels equally comfortable for watching a game, grabbing dinner, or just meeting friends for beers.

The brewery also hosts events and specials throughout the week, which helps keep the energy up in the taproom.

I prefer the breweries that are a bit less modern and that have a unique personality, thought it was tasty, this felt a lot more like a restaurant to me!
