Let's be honest, sometimes a brewery catches your attention before you've even had a beer. That was absolutely the case with Dead Armadillo Brewery.

Of all the brewery names I've come across during my travels, Dead Armadillo might be my favorite. Pair that with their logo, and I was immediately sold. It's memorable, it's quirky, and exactly the kind of branding that makes me want to pull in and see what they're all about.

We stopped here while making our way to Houston, so it wasn't a long visit. This was very much a one-drink-and-hit-the-road kind of stop, but it didn't take long to realize this is a place I'd happily spend more time at on a future trip.

Taproom

Dead Armadillo started in a garage when the owner (Tony...check out their website to learn more about him) began brewing as a hobby and had a dream to turn that passion into something bigger. After years of planning and a Kickstarter campaign, the brewery launched in 2013 before opening the Tulsa brewery and taproom a few years later. What started as a small operation is now a recognizable Oklahoma craft beer brand that you can find throughout the region.

What's On Tap?

Beer taps

Because we were just passing through, I only had time for a quick flight, it was enough to leave a positive impression. Dead Armadillo is known for a mix of year-round favorites and rotating seasonals, with traditional ales to more creative flavors on the tap list.

While I didn't get a chance to work my way through a multiple pours, the sour was solid and gave me enough reason to want a return visit. This is one of those breweries where I'd love sitting down for an afternoon.

Food Finds

Food wasn't part of our stop, as we were focused on getting back on the road. The brewery occasionally hosts food options and events, but for us this visit was strictly about grabbing a beer, checking out the brewery, and continuing our drive.

Food Score: 1/5 (for the tasting room anyway)

The Vibe Inside & Out

The atmosphere (and the name itself) was probably my favorite part of the experience. The beer tender was fantastic - friendly, welcoming, and exactly the kind of person you hope to meet when visiting a brewery for the first time.

Even though we weren't there long, the taproom immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. The brewery is in an old industrial space close to downtown Tulsa, which adds a little extra character without trying too hard. The outdoor beer garden and patio area provide even more room to spread out when the weather is nice (and not too hot).

It's easy to see why this has become a favorite local gathering place. If I lived around here, you can bet I'd be one of the regulars.

Dog Friendly Details:

One nice bonus is that dogs are welcome in the beer garden, so it's a good option for anyone traveling with their pup since Oklahoma doesn't have to worry about the midwest winters.

To-Go selection

Dead Armadillo Brewery ended up being one of those places that left a big impression even for a short visit. Between the awesome name, great logo, super staff, and welcoming atmosphere, it checked a lot of boxes for me. Add in some fun merchandise and solid beer, and it's a great place to visit time and time again.

If our schedule hadn't been focused on getting to Houston, I would've stayed longer.

This is a brewery I'd like to revisit the next time I'm passing through Tulsa.

Final Score: 4.5/5
