St. Paul Brewing Co has one of the most unique patio spaces I've been to, not only in Minnesota, but anywhere.

Some breweries focus only on the beer, others more on the vibe, but St. Paul Brewing manages to deliver both. What really makes it stand out is the personality of the place, it feels like a hidden destination rather than just a quick stop for a drink.

The brewery is located in the historic Hamm’s Brewery building, a building that dates back to the late 1800s and was once one of Minnesota’s most well-known brewing facilities. Today, St. Paul Brewing has brought new life to part of that historic space while still preserving its character, which you can see throughout.

Walking through the doors, you can feel that blend of old history and modern craft beer culture.

What's On Tap?

St. Paul Brewing, like most craft breweries, has a rotating lineup of house beers on tap, and they make a variety of styles including IPAs, lagers, seasonals, seltzers, and occasionally sours.

This is one brewery where I make a point to check the tap list before heading over. They don’t always have a sour available, so I usually call ahead or look at the online tap list to see what’s currently on tap.

Peaches, Peaches, Peaches - Smoothie Sour 5.2% ABV

This sour is heavy into the fruit-forward smoothie style. Packed with peach flavor (as one would guess), it’s thick, juicy, and slightly tart while but still smooth and refreshing. The peach character really comes out, making it an easy choice if you enjoy fruited sour beers or just like peach.

Food Finds

Another big bonus at St. Paul Brewing is that the food menu goes far beyond the typical brewery snack lineup. It’s more of a full brewpub experience, with a kitchen that puts real effort into creative comfort food designed to pair with their beer.

The menu includes a mix of shareable plates, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and wood-fired pizzas, making it easy to settle in for a full meal instead of just stopping by for a drink.

Some of the more popular items from their menu are:

  • Wood-fired pizzas

  • Sandwiches and burgers

  • Apps like chicken wings, garlic cheese bread, elote-style Brussels sprouts, and tortilla chips with queso.

  • Salads

  • And a kids menu with things like grilled cheese, chicken tenders, and quesadillas.

The Vibe Inside & Out

The atmosphere is where St. Paul Brewing shines. Inside the brewery is warm and inviting, which is a perfect reflection of the building's history while it still feels modern and lively.

The biggest highlight, in my opinion, is the patio. Honestly, it might be the most unique brewery patio I’ve been to. It almost feels like a private garden tucked away behind the brewery. It’s filled with colorful seating, tons of greenery, and lots of creativity that make it feel welcoming the moment you step outside.

On a nice Minnesota day, it’s easily one of the best places in the Twin Cities to sit down with a beer.

Dog Friendly Details:

Pups on the patio, they are allowed to walk through the brewery with their humans in order to get to it, but they can't stay and chill inside with you.
