I hadn’t actually heard of 4 Hands Brewing before this trip, but I did notice a sign for their Chesterfield location on my drive into town - which put them on my radar.

When I saw their tasting room pop up as an option later, I figured it was worth checking out.

4 Hands started back in 2011 and has grown into a pretty well-known name in the St. Louis beer scene, with multiple locations and concepts around the area. The tasting room I visited is more of a laid-back spot where you can try a rotating selection of their beers without the full restaurant setup.

Taproom

I only made it to this one location during my trip, but it was clear they’ve built out a solid presence around the city. My stop here was pretty quick - it was later in the evening, and since I was on my own, I wasn’t looking to stay out too long in a new-to-me city. But even as a short visit, I’m glad I stopped in.

What's On Tap?

Beer taps

4 Hands is known for creating a wide variety of beers, from stouts and IPAs to seasonal releases. The one I stopped in to try was:

Phases of the Moon – Volume One (Phase 1) Sour 6.6% ABV

A classic sour berry mix of blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry. Nothing super unique, but balanced and delightful- a solid option.

Phases of the Moon Sour

This one had a bit more happening than your typical sour. It’s a mixed fermentation beer that uses a blend of yeast and bacteria, to give it a more layered flavor. Right away I noticed the hints of peach and apricot, as well as some tropical hints like pineapple, with a perfectly tart cherry finish.  Definitely one I could’ve taken a few cans of if they had them available - it was a solid find.

Food Finds

The tasting room focuses primarily on the beer experience, so food options are limited compared to other breweries.

Depending on the location or time of visit, you might be able to find snacks or nearby food options, but this stop is more about grabbing a drink than sitting down for a meal. If you're looking for food as well as drinks, it would be worth checking out one of the other 4 Hands Brewing locations around St Louis - both Chesterfield and Kirkwood have some great options.

Food Score: 1/5 (for the tasting room anyway)

The Vibe Inside & Out

Since I stopped in later in the evening and didn’t stay long, I didn’t get a full sense of how the space feels during peak hours.

That said, the tasting room had a relaxed, casual feel - the kind of place where you can stop in, try something new, and then move on to your next spot.

Given 4 Hands’ reputation and multiple locations, it’s easy to imagine this space getting busier earlier in the day or on weekends. I look forward to going back to St. Louis when I can check out the other locations!

To-Go selection

Even though my visit to 4 Hands Brewing’s tasting room was quick, it was still a worthwhile stop. Between the strong reputation of the brewery and a solid sour like Phases of the Moon – Volume One, it’s a place I’d like to learn more about on a future trip.

Next time I’m in St. Louis, I’ll definitely plan to explore more of what 4 Hands has to offer.
