The Shop Beer Co was one of our stops while exploring breweries around the Phoenix area. Located in Tempe near Arizona State University, it has the kind of laid-back neighborhood feel that fits well in a college town.
When we visited, we ended up arriving pretty early in the day. Because of that, we were some of the first people there and the taproom was quiet. That made it a little tough to get a full sense of what the energy might be like when things get busier, but honestly, it worked out well for us. It was a beautiful Arizona day, so grabbing a quick pint out on the patio before continuing our brewery touring was just about perfect.
The Shop Beer Co was founded by two longtime friends with backgrounds in the craft beer world, who set out to create a place focused on quality beer and community (a common theme among local breweries it seems). The result is this brewery that is creative with its beers while staying approachable and welcoming.
What's On Tap?

The Shop Beer Co keeps a rotating lineup of house beers covering a variety of styles, from hop-forward ales to lighter drinkers and experimental releases. I wasn't impressed with the sour on tap, so it didn't even make my list.
But...some of the more popular beers that regularly appear on their tap list include:

Church Music IPA One of their flagship beers, this IPA balances hop character with drinkability and has become one of their most recognizable releases.
Neon Desert IPA A hazy IPA featuring tropical hop aromas and juicy flavor.
Crispy Lager A clean, easy-drinking lager that works well for a warm Arizona afternoon.
Like many craft breweries, the tap list rotates frequently, so you’ll usually find a mix of seasonal releases and small-batch beers alongside their regular offerings.

Food Finds
The Shop Beer Co focuses primarily on the beer experience, but they regularly host food trucks to keep visitors fed while enjoying a pint or two.
Because the brewery sits in the heart of Tempe, there are plenty of nearby restaurants and food options if you're planning a longer stop in the area.

The Vibe Inside & Out
Even though it was quiet when we visited, the layout makes it easy enough to imagine how the space fills up later in the day, especially with college students.
Inside, the taproom has an industrial craft brewery feel with a long bar and a decent amount of seating. The patio offers a great place to enjoy Arizona’s sunshine - something we took full advantage of during our visit.

Between its location near ASU and its rotating events and beer releases, it seems like the kind of place that likely gets a lot more lively once the evening crowd arrives.
Vibe Score: 2.5/5

Dogs are patio-only for this one.

Practical Tips

Early visits are quiet If you stop in earlier in the day like we did, expect a calm atmosphere.
Patio is worth it On a nice day, the patio is a great spot to enjoy a quick pint.
Check the rotating tap list The Shop is said to experiment with a variety of styles, so there’s usually something new to try.
Tapped In Takeaway

Even though our visit to The Shop Beer Co was short and on the quieter side, it was still a nice, quick stop during our brewery touring around the Phoenix area.
Between the tap list and a patio that’s perfect for Arizona weather, it’s an easy place to grab a beer and relax for a minute.
Next time we’re in Tempe, I may have to swing by again, if they've got an intriguing sour on tap, hopefully later in the day to see the taproom when it’s in full swing.
Final Score: 2/5
