Located in Silverthorne, CO I was super impressed by the fact there was a brewery in such a small town. And a great one at that. Angry James is proof that great locations can thrive in small communities. The brewery was the perfect reflection of Colorado: laid-back, friendly, and a little on the odd-side, but in a good way.
Coming from Minneapolis, the mountain views and slower pace made this spot an instant favorite before I’d even took my first sip. You don’t just drink beer when you’re in Colorado. You soak up the clean (though thinner) air, the small-town charm, and the views that make you forget about the stresses of the real world for a while.
It’s so fun to learn about the history behind the different craft breweries, with so many starting from “regular” people with big dreams, and Angry James is just that. Founded by a couple who sold their Denver home, moved to the mountains, and put everything they had into starting a brewery from scratch, this place is full of heart and hard work. It opened in 2018 and has since become a Silverthorne staple. And despite the name, there’s nothing “angry” about it; it’s the kind of space that feels like coming home.
WHAT'S ON TAP?

I started with the Hot Pink Gorilla Fruited Sour, and it might just make my “top 10 sour names ever” list. The flavor lived up to the name: bright, juicy, and perfectly balanced, with a fruit blend that tasted natural and fresh. The tang hit just right without being too puckery.
If we made it to the area again, I'll go back and grab a crowler to bring home. This one’s definitely a keeper, both for creativity and tastiness.

Sour Score: 4.5/5
Food Finds
Inside Angry James, you’ll find Mountain Melt Grilled Cheese, a local favorite serving, as you might guess, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches that go great with a cold pint. Our group was there on the hunt for a Bavarian pretzel (carb-loading for my son’s 50-mile race the next morning), but grilled cheese was the only menu item.
We didn’t order, so it wouldn’t be fair to judge, but the smells alone made me wish we had.
Food Score: Unrated since we didn't order!

The Vibe Inside & Out
Angry James had a great balance of cozy yet still full of energy. The taproom has a small-town bar charm mixed with the creativity and welcoming feel I've come to expect from a true craft brewery. Locals and travelers blend together and it’s a place where you can show up as a stranger and not feel like you're out of place.
The mountain backdrop adds a special touch that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. It’s casual, friendly, and very "Colorado".
Vibe Score: 4.5/5

Dog Friendly Details:
Colorado is definitley the land of dogs and breweries. Angry James fits right in. The patio, both enclosed and open, was packed with dogs of all shapes and sizes enjoying the sunshine while their humans sipped.
Being away from our own pack for a few days, it was a nice meet some locals (and their dogs). This is the kind of space that truly welcomes everyone, four-legged friends included.
Score: 5/5

Tapped In Takeaway

Angry James Brewing is a small-town brewery done right. Between the friendly locals, delicious beer, mountain backdrop, and dog-friendly patio, it’s an easy favorite.
Whether you’re road-tripping through the Rockies, spending a weekend skiing nearby, or just need a break from I-70, make the detour.
Next time, I’ll be leaving with some Hot Pink Gorilla and a hoodie to match the mountain vibes.
