Considering my passion for dogs, the junkyard dog logo itself was enough to lure me into this one and let me tell you, this place does not disappoint. Located just off of Highway 10 on the corner of 1st Avenue and 15th Street, the bright red building is impossible to miss.
What makes this brewery even more unique is the fact that they are also a “Harvest Host” so if you’re on a road trip adventure and need a place to park overnight, they’ve got you covered with their large lot right across the way.
The staff was genuinely welcoming, and I loved that you can order a 4 oz half-pint of any beer for just $4.50, an awesome way to sample a couple options before committing to a full pour. With multiple sours on tap, free fresh popcorn, and lots of indoor and outdoor seating, Junkyard Brewing quickly became one of my favorite brewery finds.
What's On Tap?

Any brewery that offers more than one sour on their menu is a must in my book, but it’s even better when the options are all tasty! With 11 total taps, 2 of them were sours:
Super Slush (5.9% ABV) - a fruited sour bursting with mango and passionfruit - a delicious combo. A hint of vanilla and lactose also give it a bit of a creaminess. Refreshing for a warm fall afternoon, it earns a 3.5/5 from me.

Sour Score: 4/5
Gator Juice - (6.6% ABV) A pineapple-strawberry sour that is a perfect balance of tart and sweet, with a nice bright, red color. I even made a trip back on our way out of town to bring some home with me, but it wasn’t canned. It’s still a solid 4 out of 5.

Food Finds
Did I mention the free popcorn? That in itself was plenty enough to keep me happy. It made me wonder why more breweries don’t offer it, after all, it does keep you thirsty!
Beyond the popcorn, Junkyard offers house pizzas with fun flavor combinations. I didn’t order one this time, but menu options like the Cubano Italiano and Hawk Hoggin’ are definitely on my radar for my next visit.
If you’re not in the mood for pizza and popcorn, the attached Sol Ave Kitchen will deliver your food right to you at the brewery. Check out their menu here

Food Score: 4/5 simply for the popcorn!

The Vibe Inside & Out
The vibe here is laid back, with two indoor seating areas and a large covered patio that opens onto 1st Avenue. A second bar in the adjacent room is a nice touch that can help serve crowds when it gets busy, keeping lines short and service fast.
Junkyard’s event calendar is packed with fun like live music, bingo, animal rescue fundraisers, a gardener’s market, and lots more. Check their calendar for what’s coming up before you go.
Vibe Score: 4.5/5

Dog Friendly Details:
Furry friends are welcome on the patio. Somewhat of a bummer considering when winter comes around you’ll need to leave your furry friend at home, as the indoor seating area isn’t dog-friendly.
Score: 1/5

Tapped In Takeaway

With a 4.9-star Google rating, Junkyard Brewing lives up to its great reputation for tasty beer, a laid-back vibe, and welcoming hospitality. Between the sours, popcorn, and friendly staff, this oneranks near the top of my favorite breweries list. I’ll definitely be back to see what’s new, and to stock up on a few cans for home!
Bonus Stop: Junkyard West – West Fargo, ND
If you can’t get enough of Junkyard, good news, there’s more to love across the river. Junkyard West in West Fargo, ND, brings the same creative beer lineup and relaxed energy that made the Moorhead location a local legend.

The new spot has a slightly different feel: a larger indoor space with an open, modern design and a full food menu that goes beyond pizza. It’s perfect for those cold winter days when the patio isn’t an option. You’ll still find the signature Junkyard brews (and a lineup of funky sours), plus the same friendly faces behind the bar and community events that make both spots so inviting.
Whether you’re sipping a sour on the Moorhead patio or settling in for dinner in West Fargo, Junkyard continues to prove why they’re one of the most beloved breweries in the region.
