Wooden Ship is a small hidden gem nestled in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Southwest Minneapolis. This location is why I find local breweries so fun and unique. It is small, welcoming, and you can feel the love of the community from everyone who enters. The brewery is in a converted corner building with rustic wood, large windows, and a warm glow that spills out onto the street. Almost like in the movies.
This one started the same way many small breweries seemed to have started, a group of friends who started playing around with brewing in their basement or garage and then found a passion that grew into a thriving business. They are community-driven, creative, and proud of the small-town feel right in the middle of the big city.
From the moment we stepped inside, I felt like I was walking into someone’s lake cabin, complete with reclaimed wood, string lights, and lots of furry friends.
What's On Tap?

Though the tap list isn’t extensive, they do rotate their options often. There’s a mix of IPAs, porters, pilsner and some experiments!

The sour today was a collaborative effort with Venn Brewing (another favorite) called Inevitable Enterprise, an imperial fruited sour at 8% ABV.
It was a well balanced blend with a ton of flavor - mango, passionfruit, guava, tangerine, hibiscus and my favorite addition - chili peppers. The pepper can sound a bit intimidating, but not overpowering, it brought this sour to a whole new level and was amazing.
Sour Score: 3.5/5
Food Finds
No onsite kitchen, but a solid food truck lineup. This particular evening was La Tortilla. As you can imagine, they were serving up delicious authentic Mexican food. I opted for the quesadilla which paired perfectly with the slight spice of the sour. You can’t go wrong with a homemade taco truck - if you see them around sometime, I’d recommend grabbing a bite!
They often have some local food truck favorites like Animals BBQ, Bad Rooster, and Parlour parked out front, so there’s always something new and different to try.
There’s also the option to bring your own food. Just a block away are Turtle Bread Company (sandwiches and pastries) and Tosca (Italian) are a couple of options.
Food Score: 3.5/5

The Vibe Inside & Out
This is a pretty small location, so if you’re not into crowds on a busy weekend, stick to visiting during the week or come early to enjoy it before the rush. The main taproom only has room for a few dozen people, but it’s quaint. The patio is a great option as well during the warmer months.
There is a lot going on here as well, check out their event calendar for specifics, but here are a few things you’ll find:
Live Music (we caught James Wadden during our visit)
Trivia Tuesdays
$2 off pours on Sunday afternoons
$2 off 4-packs on Mondays
There always seems to be something going on - a great way to keep the community engaged!
Vibe Score: 4.5/5

Dog Friendly Details:
If you love breweries that love dogs, Wooden Ship is your place. Both the taproom and patio are dog-friendly, and the regulars clearly appreciate it! We counted at least ten pups during our visit!

Score: 5/5

Insider Info
Best time to visit: Weeknights or early afternoons for a more relaxed vibe. Tuesdays (for trivia) and Fridays tend to be busiest.
Merch: Decent selection of merchandise considering how small the place is - beanies, tshirts, hoodies, etc.all that perfectly match their rustic feel.
Tapped In Takeaway

The perfect place to go when looking for somewhere new, almost feels like you’re in a movie. Super quaint, welcoming with deliciousness on tap. Between the friendly staff and the vibe, it’s easy to see why locals would love it. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic, and that’s what I loved about it.
I will definitely be stopping by here again sometime to see what other types of sour combinations they come up with next.
Final Score: 3.5/5
