Front of Walter Station
Fun location across from CHS Field and the St. Paul Farmer's Market

I was excited to finally check out one of the many breweries over in St. Paul. We had tickets to a show at the Ordway, which gave us the perfect excuse to make the trip—because let’s be honest, unless you already live nearby, the drive and parking fees make it hard to justify the visit on a regular night. But I’m glad we did.

MetroNOME Brewery is located right across the street from CHS Field (home of the St. Paul Saints) and just steps from the St. Paul Farmers Market. I can only imagine how lively this spot gets on game days or Saturday mornings in the summer.

A quick note on the name: NOME stands for Nurturing Outstanding Music Education, and the mission behind it is genuinely awesome. A portion of their profits goes to supporting music education groups in the Twin Cities, and they even have a foundation focused on providing music education to underserved youth. So yes—you can enjoy a few pints and feel good knowing you're contributing to something meaningful. Fittingly, they also host live music, though it leans more classical than cover bands.

Drinks:

Their Jam Session Sour – Lingonberry was fantastic. I liked it enough to bring some home, which should tell you something. This one is great for anyone who might be new to sours or aren’t sure if they’re into them yet. It’s a unique fruit flavor, tart, and not at all hoppy.

The lingonberry is something a little different—it’s light and balanced with just a little zing. Easily a 5 out of 5 from me. I did bring a 4-pack home! AND, I was excited to find it on tap at a restaurant in Maple Grove (Grackle), so if you can't get out to St. Paul and want to try it out, swing over to Grackle and sip away!

Food:

As far as food goes, you’ve got a few options. They serve Heggies pizza (made fresh in their in-house oven), a couple of snack options like “nosh” boxes and flavored popcorn, and they also let you know which nearby restaurants will deliver right to their door. You could, of course, always visit Bullvino’s before or after hitting the brewery as well, though my guess is reservations are needed there.

I'll give them a 2 out of 5 in this category, not much to pick from, but that's okay!

Dog Friendliness:

I didn’t see any dogs during our visit, and from what I could find online and on their socials, it doesn’t look like pups are allowed inside. The building also has condos, so while there were dogs out front getting walks from their owners, they seemed to belong to residents. If a dog-friendly brewery is a must for you, this one might not make the list.

They earn a 0 out of 5 here, without knowing for certain, or seeing any 4-legged friends, I have to assume, they're not welcome inside - and I didn't see a patio option.

Atmosphere:

It’s a great space—found in a restored downtown building with old hardwood floors, exposed brick, and big windows. There’s a designated space for live music, and the layout feels open and not at all cramped. If you grab a seat near the internal windows, you can peek over into Bullvino’s and get some real-time food envy.

They also have this massive booth that’s perfect for groups—just know someone will need to be the designated runner for refills, because if you get the middle seat, you’re not getting out easily.

I liked the rustic, old building feel, so I do give them a 3.5 out of 5. I'd definitely go back!

Merch & More:

They had a nice variety of merch. I did bring home a hoodie—it was on sale, and way too cozy to pass up. There were a few t-shirts, winter hats, and branded glasses available too.

Bathrooms are individual and gender-neutral and pretty standard. I also loved the their selection of board games, cards, and a number of events they host. Beyond the music, there’s trivia, game nights, and a midweek happy hour.

They get a 3 out of 5 - fun selection!

Check it out!

Overall:

This one really stood out as a favorite. Other than the distance and paid parking, there wasn’t much to complain about. It’s got a nice mission, a fun vibe, great drinks, and enough going on to make it feel like more than just another bar stop.

I’d definitely go back if I’m in the area again. And if you’re heading to a Saints game or a downtown St. Paul event, it’s the perfect spot to grab a drink.
