Prairie Artisan Ales was one of the stops we made while driving south toward Houston, and considering their reputation, it had to be a stop. Unlike some of the small breweries we visit most often, this one is well known nationally. Their bottles and cans are distributed in many states, including Minnesota, so there’s a good chance you’ve seen them on shelves or on tap even if you’ve never visited Oklahoma City.
The brewery was founded by brothers, who started Prairie Artisan with a goal of brewing distinctive beers that stand out from the crowd. Over time they’ve become especially known for creative stouts and heavily fruited sour ales, which helped put Prairie on the national craft beer map.
Walking into the taproom, was a bit different as it is in a shared building with other offices, a pickle ball court, and a couple of food joints. The tap list was packed with options - the kind of sour options where you realize pretty quickly you won’t be able to try everything in one visit. Which just means I’ll have to come back.
What's On Tap?
Prairie is famous for pushing the boundaries with flavor, and their tap list definitely reflects that. If you’ve had Prairie beers before, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve had their sour series, it has become a signature for the brewery.
Pumpkin Kerfuffle 8.2% ABV
This seasonal sour brings together pumpkin spice flavors with Prairie’s well-known tart base. It’s rich, has a little pumpkin pie spice, and still has a nice sour finish the brewery is known for. It was good enough that I brought some cans home with me to enjoy later.
With so many options on the tap list, it’s one of those places where you’ll probably want to try a flight and explore a few different styles. Prairie is definitely a brewery where sampling is half the fun.

Food Finds
Prairie Artisan Ales focuses on the beer experience, so the taproom is centered around drinks rather than a full restaurant.
Depending on the day, you may find snacks or nearby food options, and the brewery sits located in the 8th Street Market which is also home to Magasin Table (fast-casual Vietnamese food, including Banh Mi and Pho) or Prelude Coffee if your with someone who prefers coffee while you sip on sours.

The Vibe Inside & Out
The taproom itself has a casual, modern feel that encourages hanging out and trying different beers.
Inside is a small, welcoming bar area with plenty of seating, while outside there’s patio space for enjoying Oklahoma’s warmer days. The overall vibe was laid back and casual, with a mix of locals, craft beer regulars, and travelers like me stopping in to see the brewery behind some well-known sour flavors.
Because Prairie has such a strong reputation in craft beer, it tends to attract visitors from all over who want to try the beers right at the source.

Dog Friendly Details:
Dogs are welcome in the outdoor patio area, so at least there's a spot for them!
