Harbor Mountain Brewing was one of the brewery stops I made while cruising through Alaska on Holland America, and it ended up being one of the most memorable stops of the trip.
Sitka itself was one of the ports on our itinerary, and while the brewery wasn’t right next to the cruise port, we decided to make the walk anyway. It meant trekking a bit through the rain - but honestly, when you’re in Alaska, that’s just part of the experience. The walk took us through rainforest scenery, and even in the drizzle it was absolutely beautiful. By the time we arrived at the brewery, it felt like we had earned that first beer.
Harbor Mountain Brewing was founded with a goal of creating a community-centered brewery in Sitka, getting its inspiration from the surrounding mountains, forests, and landscape that make Alaska so unique. Once we stepped inside, we were greeted by some of the friendliest people we met during the cruise stop, which made the visit even better.
WHAT'S ON TAP?

Harbor Mountain, as with most breweries, keeps a rotating lineup of craft beers brewed on site, with a mix of styles and seasonal releases.

Black Pearl - Smoothie Sour 5.3% ABV
This sour was great. Made with blackberries, lemon zest, and lactose, it had a thick, fruity character that was smoothie-like while still giving a bright tart finish.

Sour Score: 3.5/5
FOOD FINDS
Another bonus at Harbor Mountain is that they serve pizza right in the taproom, which was perfect with their beer. After walking through the Sitka rain, sitting down with a sour beer and a pizza was the perfect move. The food option made the brewery an easy place to settle in for a little bit before the trek back to the ship.
Food Score: 4/5

THE VIBE INSIDE & OUT
The atmosphere inside Harbor Mountain Brewing feels very much quaint. The taproom is relaxed and welcoming, with enough seating and a steady flow of visitors stopping in most of which I can only assume were fellow cruisers like us. Even though Sitka is a smaller town, the brewery clearly plays an important role as a social hub for visitors and locals alike. Between the friendly staff and laid-back, Alaskan vibe, it’s easy to see why the place is popular.
Vibe Score: 4/5

DOG FRIENDLY DETAILS:
No dogs were seen on this visit, but it was raining so there wasn't much happening outside. It's possible they're welcome, but not present the day of our visit.

INSIDER INFO
Wear rain gear. If you're walking from the cruise port like we did, there’s a good chance you’ll encounter a little rain.
Don’t skip the sour. If the Black Pearl or another sour is on tap, it’s absolutely worth trying.
Check out the merch. They had a great selection of merchandise available - perfect for bringing a little piece of Alaska home.

TAPPED IN TAKEAWAY

If your Alaska cruise stops in Sitka and you’re willing to take a short adventure off the ship, this brewery is definitely worth the visit.
