Bawden Street Brewing Co., it’s the only microbrewery located in the heart of this small town.

It was started in 2016 by a group of friends who started as homebrewers, the brewery gets its name from the street where it all started. The space is small but filled with heart, creativity, and that an Alaskan “locals’ favorite” type energy.

I was among one of  the first through the door that morning while we were docked at port. And yes, even at 10 a.m., a cold craft sour beer was exactly what I needed. I was on vacation after all.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Taplist

Tap Handles

Despite its size, Bawden Street Brewing has a great tap list. Their selection of brews is creative and well balanced, especially the two sours I got my hands on.

Pint of sour

  • Watermelon Basil Gose (5.0% ABV) A perfectly  refreshing start to my day in Ketchikan! Slightly sour, with hints of strawberry and watermelon balanced by a bit of fresh basil. It was unexpectedly delicious and a perfect “breakfast beer” if you ask me.

  • Blackberry Berliner Weisse (4.2% ABV)  This one was okay, not quite as good as the Gose. It was nicely tart and fruity, but maybe a little more berry flavor would've taken it to the next level. Still a solid sour for sour connoisseurs.

Food Finds

There weren’t any food options available, it’s more of a “pop in for a pint” type of stop while exploring Ketchikan’s downtown streets.

The Vibe Inside & Out

Small but unforgettable! The entire space is full of nautical themed decor, which I learned was a nod to the owner’s Coast Guard background. You’ll see octopus tap handles, scuba gear, and bits of Ketchikan’s history woven throughout.

This small taproom is welcoming and warm, with a tiny patio that’s hard to find due to Alaska’s short summer season. Sitting outside with a crisp Gose in late July, surrounded by the beautiful Alaskan greenery and ocean air, was an experience I’ll never forget.

Dog Friendly Details:

YEP! Though there weren't many furry friends present this particular day, on my way out I did see a couple of locals bring their dogs inside! Alaskans love their pups too!

Insider Info

  • Best time to visit: Mornings or early afternoons are quieter; cruise ship days fill the place fast!

  • Location: A short walk from the cruise port, and a perfect stop between or after excursions.

  • Ordering: Step right up to the bar and get to know the friendly staff

  • Merch: Their branding is fun and unique. The logo alone was enough to make me want one of everything, and I almost succeeded. They've got hoodies, hats, growlers, tap handles and shirts in a variety of designs, all featuring their nautical logo.

I absolutely loved this place. Bawden Street Brewing isn’t just a bar, it’s a true Alaskan experience. From the moment you walk in, the mix of locals and travelers, the friendly conversation, and the smell of fresh Alaskan air make it feel like home.

It’s super cozy, it’s inviting, and it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay for “just one more.” Whether you’re a craft beer lover or simply seeking an authentic taste of Alaska, Bawden Street Brewing should absolutely be on your list.
