If you're looking for a dog-friendly brewery in Topeka, Happy Basset Brewing is an easy recommendation.
This is a family-owned brewery that was inspired by the owners’ love for basset hounds, and the whole place clearly appreciates the theme with a laid-back, welcoming vibe that feels more like a local hangout than a typical brewery.
When we stopped in, it quickly became clear that Happy Basset is a gathering place with live music, events, and plenty of space to relax with a tasty pint.
What's On Tap?
Happy Basset usually has 20+ beers on tap, covering everything from IPAs and wheat beers to big barrel-aged stouts.
Tart Terrier – Berliner Weisse
3.2% ABV
This one is a light, slightly tart, and refreshing sour. One that is perfect if you're hanging out on the patio or starting off a brewery crawl. At an easy ABV, it’s also a great “session” beer if you plan on trying a few different things or are making multiple stops.
4 / 5

Another nice touch here is the variety of serving sizes, so it's easy to sample or take some home. Available pour options include:
5 oz Taster- perfect for sampling a few flavors
13 oz Snifter- a solid middle-sized pour
32 oz Crowler- great for taking to-go
32 oz Howler- a smaller refillable option
64 oz Growler - perfect if you find a favorite you want to come back for
Beyond the sour, the tap list includes IPAs, wheat beers, and rotating seasonal releases, so there’s typically something for everyone whether you like hop-forward beers or lighter styles.
Food Finds
One thing that makes Happy Basset stand out compared to many breweries is the food options. You’ll find:
BBQ available onsite
Snack foods at the bar
Food trucks during events
The BBQ gets great reviews, especially the burnt ends with spicy sauce, which is perfect paired with their darker beers, according to the regulars.

Food Score: 2/5
The Vibe Inside & Out
The atmosphere here is fun, casual, and perfectly dog-centric.
Inside you’ll find:

Tons of seating for groups of all sizes
Outside is where it really shines with:
Large patio space
Dog-friendly areas
Seating for events
Happy Basset hosts live music every weekend, trivia, dance nights, and even Sunday brunch events. So depending when you visit, it might feel like a quiet taproom or a full-on party.
Vibe Score: 4/5 - the basset theme is perfect

As you'd imagine from their name, this might be one of the most dog-friendly breweries I've seen, and according to visitors, one of the best dog-friendly options in Kansas. They welcome dogs and have areas designed for them - plus the bartenders even hand out treats to visiting pups.
