This place is an OG - it played a huge role in the growth of my passion for sours and the adventure in breweries. It helped me appreciate the uniqueness of each location and the diverse nature of the drinks they offer.

Bent Brewstillery is the first brewery and distillery in MN, making it an extra fun location to check out, especially if you have friends who prefer hard liquor to the usual brews. They make a number of hard liquors from Rum and Vodka to Gin and Bourbon…I always keep a bottle of the rum on hand at home, too…it’s one of the best.

Drinks:

Bent Brewstillery is not only a brewery, but also a distillery, so there are a few more options than you’ll find at a typical brewery location. I highly recommend visiting on a Wednesday if you’re interested in checking out their spirit selection, it’s like “sample day” at the grocery store! I’ve tried them all - didn’t find many that I didn’t care for, but the rum is by far my favorite. They offer a they're own variety of rum, gin, whiskey and vodka.

Their selection of sours and ciders varies and changes often. I was very impressed the first time we visited, it did happen to be a Wednesday, so the spirit sampling helped make it a winner in my book, but the sour they had on tap was also great. The sour on tap was called “OPP” (orange, passionfruit, papaya), definitely a tasty one - I enjoyed it enough to bring a few home.

Unfortunately, though, the last few times we’ve been there (to re-stock on the rum), the OPP Sour hasn’t been available. They have had a cider and seltzer on tap as an alternative, but not nearly as good as the OPP…doable, but not worth the 20 minute drive, if you ask me. So…call ahead if you’re hoping for something specific - or check their website, they seem to keep it pretty up-to-date.

Food:

Not much for food options, so I wouldn't plan on this stop as a dinner AND drinks location, at least not November - March, no food truck in the winter - but I’m pretty sure they bring them in during the spring and summer months. Aside from that, they do have a pizza oven, so you can always order a pizza or the typical flavored pretzels from Von Hansen’s like just about every other brewery in the Twin Cities offers. The pizza isn’t anything spectacular, but it’s a great bar pizza, and really, could you go wrong with any pizza after a few drinks?  My rating below is based on our visit during the winter, this could easily change once the weather warms up.

Dog-Friendliness:

You don't have to leave your pup at home!
You don't have to leave your pup at home!
YES! YES! YES! This place gets extra kudos from me because they allow dogs - ALL year round - inside and out! Harley isn’t the best pup to bring along, as she likes to make friends with everyone who walks in the door and could pull a table over if you leave her alone for 5 seconds, but - they allow dogs inside, so that’s a winner in my book. You can count on there being at least one patron with 4 legs when you stop by.  We’ve only been to Bent in the winter, so haven’t had a chance to enjoy their patio, but it is a decent size and well lit for after dark.  Maybe Harley will chill out a little more, if we’re on the patio. They also have a selection of dog treats for purchase, a great option if you need a distraction.

Atmosphere:

Bent Brewstillery isn’t huge, but they’ve had a table open every time we’ve been there. High top tables only, except on the patio. It will be fun to see what it’s like once it warms up.  Stop by on Tuesday or Thursday for Bingo or Trivia. Be sure to arrive early, so you have a place to sit, these days are popular with the brewery crowd! There is also a decent board game and card selection for something else to keep you busy.

This place by far has Minnesota's greatest public bathroom - at least for those of the female gender. The bathroom alone keeps me recommending this location to friends, and keeps me coming back. The seat (in both stalls, mind you) has its own controls. Cold tush? Turn on the seat warmer….not sure if you got a good clean “down there”? Use the warm water bidet…and for the grand finale, why waste toilet paper when you’ve got a warm air fan to dry for you? I was so impressed with this bathroom the first time I experienced it, that I had  to go and give kudos to the owner! Come to find out - it’s a local attraction for many! Too bad guys…women’s restrooms only…so, unless you want to identify as a female for the day, it’s off limits to you…and believe me, you’re missing out!

Merch & More:

Not a huge selection of merchandise for purchase, but they do have some t-shirts and a hoodie available. What I like most is that you can purchase treats for your pup if they're along, we've found ourselves doing that more often than not, just to keep her happy and occupied! They do also have bottles of their spirits for purchase.

Work in the service industry? Come in on Mondays for a 50% discount. Traditional happy hour is Tuesday - Friday but only from 5:00 - 6:00.

Overall:

Bent Brewstillery is a fun and quirky spot that’s perfect for sour lovers, spirit connoisseurs, and dog parents alike. Whether you're sipping on their sour, sampling their distilled rum, or just enjoying the dog friendly atmosphere, there’s something here for everyone. Check ahead for their current drink lineup if you’re hoping to sip a specific brew.

I highly recommend you leash up your pup and head to Bent Brewstillery. Cheers to good drinks, good company, and the best bathroom experience in Minnesota! Happy sipping!
